Sweat It Out

April 6, 2016

Sweat it out-

Let the drops

Splatter

The ground,

Let the thoughts

Wander

Or vanish

Completely.  Stuck on the trainer,

As if stuck

In time,

Watching

The world roll by,

A prisoner

Of recovery,

Of your body,

Of the injuries.

Shift your weight

Uncomfortably,

Careful

Not to move

The wrong way,

Not to scream

Again.

Let it flow

Down your face

And into your eyes,

Off the bill

Of your cap,

Splashing

Onto the top tube,

Leaving

Salty stains.

Avoid

Eye contact

With the neighbors,

So you don’t

Have to

Answer

The same question

Again-

Going nowhere

Fast, huh?

Sweat it out,

And let the

Anxieties

Rest

A little while,

Counting pedal strokes,

Pushing a little

Longer,

Just through

The next song.

Push

The headphones in

Further,

Turn the volume

Up

Enough

To drown out

The noise

Of the chain

Needing to be lubed.

Finish

Unsatisfied,

But drenched,

Possibly lighter,

Maybe stronger.
